Paul Mitchell’s son, Angus, has tragically died after a reported drowning at his swimming pool at home, reports say.
Angus Mitchell was the only child of the legendary celebrity hairstylist to the stars. Reports say he passed away at his home, based in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Wednesday morning (January 3). Police apparently rushed to the scene in the early morning, at around 6am, to a possible drowning incident, it’s believed. Angus had tragically been ‘pronounced dead at the scene’.
Paul Mitchell’s only son Angus dies at home
Angus was a partial owner of his father’s haircare company – John Paul Mitchell Systems. He inherited his part of the brand after his dad’s death in 1989. Paul died from pancreatic cancer at the age of 53 – the same age Angus on his tragic death.
Paul Mitchell’s son Angus followed in his footsteps in the beauty industry. He even opened up his own salon in 2010, based in Beverly Hills, California, called Angus Mitchell Salon.
The celebrity was hands-on with the company’s men’s line, MITCH, and modelled for the products.
The salon owner was praised as an “advocate for human rights, ecological preservation, and environmental research”, in the Environmental Media Awards in 2021.
A world-renowned legacy
Paul Mitchell, born Cyril Thomson Mitchell in Scotland in 1936, became a world-famous hairstylist who had a long list of Hollywood clients.
He decided to follow his mother’s talent and enrolled at the Morris School of Hairdressing, based in London’s West End. The star later changed his name to what he was known as professionally after it became a running nickname with his boss. He started his career working at a salon in London’s lucrative Mayfair, The Park Lane.
He then would work with the late icon Vidal Sassoon, another famous hairstylist.
Vidal said of Paul in his earlier years: “He had great style. He had something terribly special. He could inspire people.”
Paul then went on to work at Crimpers Salon in Bendel’s department store, based in New York City.
In 1970, Paul Mitchell’s son Angus was born. It was the following year when Paul formed a friendship with John Paul DeJoria. The duo subsequently formed a business partnership that helped launch him into stardom.
When Paul passed away in 1989 due to his ill health, his son Angus inherited his shares.

The sad news comes after Angus appeared to be in high spirits with friends the day before. He had shared a video of a gathering on his Instagram Stories on Tuesday.
His final Instagram post included a family photo with his mom Jolina, wife and son. Angus had wished followers a happy new year following January 1.
He captioned the post: “Who’s ready to wrap 2023 and head into the new year?! Cheers to 2024 from my family to yours.”
Angus leaves behind wife Mara Gourdine, writes TMZ, as well as son Dylan, aged eight. He shared Dylan with his ex partner Sian Mitchell, a British model. He also previously wed Michelle Raab.
